Case Still Active Despite PM's Forgiveness
Although Modi addressed the controversy in a video message on Friday, saying he wished to forgive the "misguided children" involved, the girl said the police case against her has not been withdrawn. "The case has not been withdrawn. Police came to my house even today and also came yesterday evening. The police are searching for me everywhere as if I have committed a crime," she said. She said the continued police presence and public scrutiny have left her overwhelmed, even as she expressed relief at the Prime Minister's response. "I only want to say that I am very happy that he has forgiven me. Please, I will not be able to tolerate all this anymore," she said.
Background Of The Case
The controversy stems from a protest organised by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) at Jantar Mantar on July 23, tied to demonstrations over the NEET paper leak issue. A video from the protest showing the girl using abusive language against the Prime Minister went viral, leading to a Zero FIR being registered against her at Noida's Expressway Police Station on July 29 under Sections 352, 353(1) and 356(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The case was subsequently transferred to Delhi's Parliament Street Police Station.
The girl's age has not been officially confirmed, with the original complainant and a CJP spokesperson stating she is 25, while she herself has said she is 15 and a Class 10 student.
Family's Response
The girl's mother has also spoken out, acknowledging that her daughter made a mistake but arguing that the volume of threats and abusive comments directed at a minor online is equally unacceptable. She has appealed for the case to be withdrawn and urged closer parental oversight of how children engage with social media.
What Happens Next
Delhi Police have not indicated whether or when the case will be formally withdrawn. Officials have said they will review the transferred FIR before deciding on further action.
