Mumbai, March 31: A shocking incident involving a SpiceJet passenger has gone viral, raising serious concerns over airport safety and passenger conduct. The airline confirmed that a flyer, identified as Utkarsh Gautam, was offloaded and handed over to police after he was caught smoking in a restricted airport area and misbehaving with staff.
The incident reportedly took place on March 2, when Gautam was travelling from Mumbai to Jaipur. According to SpiceJet, he violated strict aviation safety rules by smoking on the airport ramp - a highly sensitive zone where such actions pose serious risks.

A now-viral video, yet to be independently verified, shows Gautam smoking on the tarmac despite repeated warnings from ground staff. When confronted, he allegedly became aggressive, arguing with airline personnel and even blowing smoke toward them through a counter opening. He is also heard demanding proof of a no-smoking rule and making arrogant remarks about his income. “This is your salary, I will put it in the gutter. I earn one million. Stay within your limits,” he is heard saying in the clip.
A SpiceJet spokesperson confirmed the action taken, stating, “The said incident occurred on March 2, 2026, when a passenger travelling from Mumbai to Jaipur was found smoking on the ramp, in clear violation of safety regulations. The passenger also misbehaved with our ground staff and CISF personnel. This controversy comes just days after another alarming incident involving the same passenger. On March 22, Gautam allegedly attempted to open an emergency exit mid-air on an IndiGo flight and reportedly abused crew members. Upon landing in Bengaluru, a complaint was filed and he was taken for questioning.
In a now-deleted post, Gautam claimed, “I have been detained at the Kempegowda International Airport police station for unruly behavior… Please help,” while accusing airline staff of misconduct. However, Bengaluru Police denied any wrongdoing.
The back-to-back incidents have sparked outrage online and reignited debate around passenger discipline and aviation safety enforcement in India.
