The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) intercepted a suspicious vessel suspected of illicit diesel smuggling near an offshore oil rig off the Mumbai coast, seizing ₹10 lakh in unaccounted cash and contraband, officials said on Friday. Acting on credible maritime intelligence received around 2:10 PM on September 10, the Coast Guard immediately diverted an Advanced Offshore Patrol Vessel to investigate unauthorized activities near the offshore facility. Executing a tactical approach under the cover of darkness, ICG personnel intercepted and boarded the suspect boat. The boat and its six crew members were taken into custody and escorted to Mumbai Harbour. The apprehended individuals and seized items have been handed over to local law enforcement agencies.
