Jaipur Tiger Attack: Big Cat Kills Female Worker at Nahargarh Biological Park
Jaipur’s Nahargarh Biological Park witnessed a fatal tiger attack after Shivaji entered an enclosure where women were cutting grass, killing worker Sugna Devi. A tiger named Shivaji killed a female worker at Jaipur's Nahargarh Biological Park after entering an enclosure where several women were cutting grass, triggering panic at the park and in nearby villages. The victim was identified as Sugna Devi, who was fatally mauled while other women escaped by climbing fencing and nearby trees.
The incident occurred in enclosure number 16, where six to seven women were working, NDTV reported. According to residents, the women had entered the enclosure on Tuesday, September 1, to cut grass and returned on Wednesday morning to collect more. Tiger Enters Enclosure And Attacks Woman
According to eyewitnesses, Shivaji suddenly entered enclosure number 16 while the women were present. The other women reportedly ran for safety after the tiger attacked. Some climbed onto the fencing, while others sought refuge in nearby trees. The tiger seized Sugna Devi and fatally mauled her. The incident caused panic among people at the park and residents of nearby villages.
Because of mobile-network problems in the area, forest department officers could not be contacted immediately, according to the information available. Once officials were alerted, a forest department team reached the scene. The team tranquilised and controlled Shivaji before recovering Sugna Devi's body from the enclosure. The women who had taken refuge on the fencing and in trees were subsequently brought to safety.
The incident led to protests by local residents, who raised questions about how the tiger entered the enclosure while the women were working there. Deputy Conservator of Forests (DCF) Ashish Vyas, police officer Piyush and local MLA Prashant Sharma met villagers following the incident.
The DCF assured the residents that swift action would be taken against any staff found responsible for negligence. Officials also said the government would be asked to provide financial assistance to Sugna Devi's family. The authorities will also consider offering a contractual zoo caretaker job to the woman's children, according to the information provided.
Villagers have demanded that CCTV footage from the park be reviewed to establish what happened before the attack and whether there was any lapse in procedure. They also highlighted the family's financial difficulties, saying Sugna Devi was the main earner.
Her husband is reportedly recovering from severe burns sustained after an electrocution incident. The villagers have sought compensation for the family and accountability for any negligence that may have contributed to the incident.
Discussions involving the forest department, police and the local MLA over compensation for Sugna Devi's family are ongoing. The authorities are also considering support measures for the victim's children.
The investigation is expected to examine the circumstances in which Shivaji entered the enclosure, the decision to open the enclosure and whether established safety procedures were followed. Further action against staff, if warranted, is expected to be based on the findings of the inquiry.
