Who Was the Victim?
The deceased has been identified as Sukhwinder Kumar, also known as Tinku, a resident of Vijay Pur in Jammu. He had been living in Jalandhar for the past four years and worked at a local vegetable shop to earn his livelihood. How Did the Accident Happen?
According to Saurabh, the victim's employer, Sukhwinder left work at 5:30 pm on the day of the incident and was walking home along a route close to the railway tracks.
While on his way, he received a phone call and became engrossed in the conversation. As he continued walking while talking on the phone, he did not notice a train approaching from behind. Bystanders near the tracks reportedly noticed the danger and shouted out to warn him, but Sukhwinder could not hear them over the phone call. Moments later, he was struck by the train and died on the spot.
Police Response and Investigation
GRP Head Constable Pritpal Singh confirmed that the control room received information about the accident, following which police personnel rushed to the spot. The body was taken into police custody and sent to the civil hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Authorities have stated that further action in the case will depend on statements recorded from the victim's family members.
