Notorious Jharkhand gangster Sujit Sinha was killed in a police encounter in Jamtara district late Sunday while being shifted from Sahibganj Divisional Jail to Dhanbad Jail, police said. According to officials, the encounter occurred after Sinha allegedly attempted to escape during the transfer, leading to an exchange of fire with the police escort team. Police said the incident took place near the Jamtara border when the prison convoy halted after Sinha reportedly requested a stop to use the toilet. Officials alleged that he snatched a rifle from an escort personnel and tried to flee. According to the police, Sinha opened fire while escaping, prompting the escort team to retaliate. Investigation Underway

Senior police officers reached the scene soon after the encounter. The area was sealed, and a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team was called to examine the site. Police said a magistrate is overseeing the proceedings and that the inquiry is being conducted in line with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) guidelines for encounter cases.

Gangster Faced Multiple Criminal Cases

Sujit Sinha was considered one of Jharkhand's most wanted gangsters and was allegedly involved in more than 60 criminal cases, including extortion, murder and organised crime.
