Gurdaspur, November 9: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 9 inaugurated the Kartarpur Corridor. The first batch of 562 Sikh pilgrims also left for Darbar Sahib Gurudwara through the corridor. The Kartarpur Corridor connects the Indian town of Dera Baba Nanak with Kartapur in Pakistan where the first guru of Sikh Guru Nanak Dev spent last 18 years of his life. With the inauguration, the seven-decade-old demand of the Sikh community has been fulfilled. The corridor was inaugurated days before the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak. This year Guru Nanak Jayanti will be celebrated on November 12. Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP from Gurdaspur Sunny Deol, Union Minister Hardeep Puri and Shiromani Akali Dal's (SAD) Sukhbir Badal were also present at the event. Speaking at the event, PM Modi thanked his Pakistani counterpart for opening the corridor. PM Narendra Modi Inaugurating Integrated Check Post:

The Prime Minister also lauded the first Sikh Guru for inspiring humankind. He said, “Guru Nanak gave a message of unity and universal brotherhood.” PM Modi on Saturday also inaugurated the integrated check post at Dera Baba Nanak. Before the inauguration of the corridor, PM Modi paid obeisance at Ber Sahib Gurudwara at Sultanpur Lodhi. The national flag has also been hoisted at the site on a 300 feet tall post. India and Pakistan signed the agreement to finalise the formal framework for operationalisation of the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor on October 24. A total of 5,000 Indian pilgrims of all faith will visit Gurudwara Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur. Pakistan will charge USD 20 service fee from each visitor.
