Two people were found dead and two others remain in critical condition after a family of four in Kerala’s Thrissur allegedly attempted suicide on Monday morning, July 13. The incident, which investigators suspect was triggered by severe financial distress, took place at the family's residence in Pazhanji. The deceased have been identified as 50-year-old Sibi and his 18-year-old daughter, Aleena.
Local police rushed to the scene after receiving a distress call from Sibi's 17-year-old son, Adithyan. Upon arrival, officers discovered Sibi’s body inside a well near the house, while Aleena was found hanging inside the residence. Sibi’s wife, Beena (45), and Adithyan were found unconscious and were immediately transported to a nearby hospital, where they currently remain in critical condition. Preliminary findings by the police indicate that the family was facing severe financial difficulties. Investigators revealed that Sibi had recently returned from the Gulf after losing his job and had been struggling with financial hardship since his return. Police suspect that the family consumed poison as part of the alleged suicide pact.
The bodies of the deceased have been shifted to the Kunnamkulam Taluk Hospital for a postmortem examination. Authorities stated that the bodies will be handed over to the relatives once legal formalities are completed. A case has been registered, and a detailed investigation is underway to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to the tragedy. In a separate and unrelated incident in neighboring Karnataka, four people were found dead at their home. According to local police findings, a 34-year-old man allegedly hacked to death his mother, grandmother, and maternal uncle before dying by suicide.
