According to police officials, the confrontation began at approximately 8:30 PM when Sukumaran returned home, allegedly in an intoxicated state. An argument quickly escalated between the couple, during which Sukumaran drew a sharp weapon and repeatedly struck Deepa. The attack occurred directly in front of their teenage daughter, whose cries for help alerted local residents. Hearing the commotion, neighbours rushed to the house to intervene. They managed to transport Deepa to a nearby hospital in Mannarkad, where medical professionals later pronounced her dead due to the severity of her injuries. Following the assault, Sukumaran turned the weapon on himself, inflicting fatal self-inflicted injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Palakkad police have launched a comprehensive investigation to determine the exact sequence of events leading up to the tragedy. Officials stated that the bodies of both individuals will be released to family members for final rites following completion of the post-mortem examinations.
