The injured man, identified as Shyam Chetan Tiwari, 35, suffered a gunshot wound near his hip joint. Tiwari, who runs a photography studio in the Bazarkhala locality, was immediately rushed to the Trauma Centre, where he is currently undergoing treatment. Officials said his condition is being monitored by doctors.

According to police, CCTV footage from the locality helped identify the accused as 25-year-old Vaibhav Bajpai, who is also reportedly associated with the BJYM. Deputy Commissioner of Police (West Zone) Kamlesh Dixit said the accused has been detained for questioning and investigators are trying to establish the exact motive behind the firing incident. Preliminary police findings suggest the shooting may have stemmed from a dispute related to the installation of political hoardings in the area. Authorities also confirmed that the firearm used in the attack was illegal and has been seized during the investigation. The incident sparked outrage among local BJYM workers and residents, who gathered in the area demanding strict action against the accused. A heavy police deployment was made in Mehndiganj to maintain law and order and prevent any escalation of tensions.
Police said further investigation is underway and additional legal action will be taken based on the findings of the interrogation and forensic examination of the weapon.
