Maharashtra: Woman Alleges Gang Rape Over Unpaid Tractor Rent in Jalgaon, 4 Arrested

Four men have been arrested in Maharashtra's Jalgaon district after a 30-year-old woman alleged that she was gang-raped over her husband's failure to pay rent for a tractor. Police have registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and launched an investigation into the allegations. According to the woman's complaint, her husband had rented a tractor from an acquaintance several months ago for agricultural work. The tractor owner later allegedly claimed that the outstanding rent had risen to around ₹1 lakh and demanded immediate payment.

The complainant alleged that when the payment was not made, the tractor owner visited the couple's farm. She told police that he offered her a snack after which she began feeling unwell. FIR Registered, Four Accused Arrested

Based on the woman's complaint, Fattepur police registered an FIR under Sections 70(1) (gang rape), 64 (rape) and other relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Bapu Rohom said all four suspects have been arrested and the investigation is being carried out under the supervision of Jalgaon Superintendent of Police Shrikant Dhivare.

Delay in Reporting

Police said the survivor informed investigators that the alleged assault had taken place a few weeks earlier, but she could not specify the exact date. She also stated that she delayed approaching the authorities because the accused had allegedly threatened her with serious consequences if she disclosed the incident. Second Serious Sexual Assault Case in the Area

The incident comes weeks after another alleged gang rape case was reported in the Fattepur police station limits. In that case, a 40-year-old woman alleged she was sexually assaulted in a forest area, while videos of the assault were allegedly recorded and later circulated on social media. Police had arrested 11 adults and detained three minors in connection with that case.

Police said further investigation is underway to establish the sequence of events and gather additional evidence. Authorities have not disclosed the identity of the survivor, in accordance with legal provisions protecting the identity of victims of sexual offences.
