Mohan Bhagwat Says Gen Z and Gen Alpha More Honest Than Existing Generation; Here's Why
RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat stated that Gen Z and Gen Alpha are more honest than older generations, emphasising that youth-led protests are a valid democratic tool for systemic correction. He defended protesting students, noting their grievances are genuine, and advocated for dialogue with neighbouring nations despite conflicts, while urging digital discipline on social media.
Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Chief Mohan Bhagwat stated on Thursday that Gen Z and Gen Alpha are "more honest than our existing generation", noting that youth-led protests are a valid method to achieve consensus in a democracy when grievances are genuine and aimed at system correction. Speaking at an event in Mumbai, Bhagwat addressed recent student demonstrations, emphasising that young people approach issues with logic rather than blind obedience and respond positively to honest appeals of patriotism and service.
Protests and Democratic Consensus
Bhagwat acknowledged that protest is a traditional method for evolving consensus in a democracy when official channels fail to address concerns. He noted that agitation should focus on systemic improvement rather than creating social divisions. Mohan Bhagwat To Address Gen Z and Alpha on August 6 at NMACC in Mumbai.
"As far as Gen Z is concerned, what happened recently - their grievance is genuine. A lot needs to be done in India's education system, and it is not being done; so, this is being raised. So, indeed there should be dialogue," Bhagwat said, referring to recent student agitations over examination integrity issues. The RSS chief contrasted the current youth demographic with older generations, pointing out that young people today demand logical explanations rather than accepting instructions without question.
"I think the new generation - the Gen Z and Gen Alpha, is more honest than our existing generation, and honest appeal of patriotism and service works with them," Bhagwat stated, adding that protesting youth should not be labelled anti-national. "They are our own people, our next generation," he added.
Dialogue Over Permanent Enmity
Turning to geopolitical relations, Bhagwat discussed civil ties with neighboring nations such as Pakistan and China, asserting that conflicts should not result in permanent hatred. "We have to go with whatever our government does... But that should not sever the ties which are already there," he said. He added that while diplomatic or military conflicts may temporarily halt bilateral engagement, the ultimate solution involves dialogue and a harmonious process rather than permanent enmity. Social Media and Self-Discipline
Addressing the influence of social media on younger demographics, Bhagwat emphasised the importance of digital literacy and verification. He cautioned against trusting unverified content, especially with the proliferation of generated media and false statements, calling for self-imposed discipline rather than heavy-handed bans.
