Mohan Bhagwat’s New York Event: X Suspends Account of Host Organisation AHEAD Days Before RSS Chief’s Rally

The X handle of American Hindus for Engagement and Dialogue (AHEAD), the organisation hosting the upcoming event of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat in New York City, has been suspended. The AHEAD forum has now appealed to X for reinstating its suspended account, days ahead of Bhagwat's scheduled address in the city.

AHEAD Says Suspension Was A Mistake

AHEAD, a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organisation, is among more than 200 supporters backing the multicultural and interfaith celebration in New York through its now-suspended @Aheadforum1 account. X can suspend an account for reasons including detected spam or platform manipulation, a high volume of user reports, links to a previously banned account, or posts that violate its rules on hate speech, threats or scams. In AHEAD's case, X only stated that the account "violates our rules," without offering further explanation. Government Says Matter Is Between X And RSS

Sources in the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITY) told Times Now that the matter is between X and RSS, and not between the tech firm and the government.

Event Scheduled For August 29 At Madison Square Garden

The development comes ahead of Bhagwat's August 29 event at Madison Square Garden in New York City, where the RSS chief is scheduled to address around 5,000 members of the Indian diaspora. After New York City Mayor voiced reservations over the event, Akhil Bharatiya Prachar Pramukh Sunil Ambekar said the event aims to promote open dialogue, mutual respect and the values of the "Bhartiya ethos."

"The Universal Oneness Celebration in New York exemplifies an interfaith gathering where RSS Sarsanghchalak Dr. Mohan Bhagwat ji will communicate with a diverse, multicultural, and multi-faith audience. Organized in the spirit of open dialogue and mutual respect, the event reflects Bharatiya ethos which is fundamentally inclusive and welcoming to all," Ambekar said in an X post. "This initiative is in line with longstanding tradition of engagement by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) with varied communities across India and the world fostering understanding and shared purpose. We invite anyone interested in learning more about the RSS vision and philosophy to participate in these open forums of dialogue," he added.

Mamdani Says He Doesn't Support The Event

Mamdani has said he does not support the event, though he acknowledged the city may not have the legal authority to stop it, since it is a private gathering. "I don't support the rally, but I don't know if the city has any jurisdiction on cancelling a private event," Mamdani said at a news conference on Tuesday.
