The deceased has been identified as Jayshri Bhanaji Parmar (56). Woman Killed After BEST Bus Runs Over Her at Mulund Check Naka
Officials said the bus had stopped at a traffic signal at the Mulund Check Naka junction, Mid Day reported. As the signal turned green, the driver began moving the vehicle while the woman was crossing the road.
According to the preliminary investigation, the pedestrian allegedly came into contact with the front right corner of the bus, causing her to fall onto the road. The bus's right-side wheel then reportedly ran over her head, resulting in fatal injuries. Police are investigating the sequence of events that led to the collision. Following the accident, the bus conductor immediately informed the Police Control Room. Police personnel and an ambulance reached the spot shortly afterwards, and the injured woman was shifted to Agrawal Hospital for treatment. Officials said she later succumbed to her injuries.
Driver, Conductor Taken for Investigation
The BEST bus driver, Ravi Bhagwant Bhoise (33), and conductor, Shailesh Sudhakar Wagh (26), along with the bus involved in the accident, were taken to Mulund Police Station for further investigation.
Police said the exact circumstances surrounding the incident are being examined, and further legal action will be decided based on the findings of the investigation. Several BEST officials, including depot and accident officers, also reached the scene and are assisting police with the inquiry.
Separate Incident at Majas BEST Depot
In a separate incident on August 6, three mechanics employed by a private bus operator were injured after chunks of plaster from the ceiling of a store room-cum-rest room collapsed at the Majas BEST bus depot.
The incident occurred at around 6.45 am in a rest room used by Mateshwari Urban Transport, a private operator working with BEST.
Officials said the injured workers were taken to Trauma Care Hospital in Jogeshwari, where they received first aid, underwent medical examination and were later discharged.
