Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray on Wednesday denied ever meeting or knowing Disha Salian, as the former manager of late actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death case returned to the spotlight following a fresh CBI investigation. Thackeray said repeated attempts to link his name to the case were a deliberate attempt at character assassination driven by political and personal motives.

He alleged that his name had been linked to the case for nearly six years through what he described as an “evidence-free” campaign aimed at damaging his reputation. His remarks come shortly after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered an FIR into Salian’s 2020 death following a direction from the Bombay High Court. The agency has begun examining the circumstances surrounding her death, including allegations raised by her family.

The case was reopened after Salian’s father, Satish Salian, approached the Bombay High Court seeking a fresh investigation. The court directed the CBI to examine the matter. There has been some conflicting reporting over whether Aaditya Thackeray is formally “named” in the FIR. Salian died in Mumbai in June 2020 after falling from a residential building. Her death was initially recorded as an accidental death, and the Mumbai Police investigation had concluded that there was no evidence of foul play. A state-appointed Special Investigation Team also reportedly found no foul play in its inquiry.

The renewed probe follows allegations by Salian’s father concerning the circumstances of her death and the handling of the earlier investigation. His allegations have been incorporated into the material being examined by the CBI, but they remain allegations to be tested during the investigation.

The developments have also triggered a political exchange in Maharashtra. Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut has alleged that the CBI probe is politically motivated and aimed at targeting the Thackeray family, while the investigation is now being handled by the central agency.

The CBI is expected to examine previous case records, question officials involved in the initial inquiry and assess statements, forensic material and other evidence as part of the fresh investigation.
