Puri, March 6: A horrific case of sexual assault and physical mutilation has surfaced in Odisha’s Khurda district, where a woman was allegedly gang-raped in front of her two minor children. The brutality of the incident has sent shockwaves across the state, as the attackers not only assaulted the victim but also bit off a portion of her cheek during the struggle. Local police confirmed on Friday, March 6, that two suspects have been apprehended following a swift tracking operation.
The incident occurred February 20 in the Joda area when the victim was returning to her village from a nearby market with her three-year-old and five-year-old children. According to the survivor's statement, two men intercepted her in a secluded forest patch near the Banapur area. The suspects reportedly dragged her into the bushes and committed the assault while her children watched in terror. The victim managed to reach her village in a semi-conscious state after the attackers fled the scene. Her family immediately rushed her to the local community health center, from where she was later shifted to a specialized hospital in Bhubaneswar due to the severity of the facial mutilation. Doctors have performed emergency surgery to treat the wound on her cheek and confirmed that she is currently stable but under intense psychological trauma.
The Khurda Police formed a special task force to identify the culprits based on the descriptions provided by the victim. By Thursday evening, investigators had tracked down and detained two local residents.
