The National Testing Agency (NTA) has established an extensive multi-layered security framework for the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination scheduled for Sunday, June 21. In an official release on Saturday, the testing agency confirmed the installation of over 1.38 lakh CCTV cameras and more than 51,000 digital jammers to prevent electronic malpractice and ensure a fair testing environment.
The medical entrance examination will take place across 5,440 centres spanning 551 domestic cities and 14 international locations. More than 22 lakh aspirants are expected to sit for the exam, which will be administered in English alongside 12 regional Indian languages. Multi-Layered Tech and Surveillance Infrastructure
To maintain strict oversight, the NTA has equipped more than 95,000 examination rooms with a total of 1,38,560 CCTV cameras. The live feeds from these cameras are being monitored virtually at the national, state, and ministry levels. Additionally, the agency is leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) tools to analyze the footage in real time and flag any behavioral anomalies.
To counter electronic cheating, a total of 51,311 jammers have been deployed at the centres. The technological deployment is a collaborative effort, with Electronics Corporation of India Limited (ECIL) providing 17,054 jammers and Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) supplying the remaining 34,257 units.
Massive Mobilization of Personnel
The physical security and verification protocols have seen an unprecedented surge in manpower. The NTA has mobilized 38,795 frisking staff and 48,448 personnel dedicated to biometric verification. Biometric manpower has been doubled compared to previous cycles and is now reinforced by digital facial authentication to keep verification thorough yet swift. On-ground monitoring is being handled by approximately 6,700 physical observers stationed across the venues, supplemented by over 100 central virtual observers. Each examination centre will also feature a dedicated Centre Systems Officer (CSO) responsible for managing technical hitches and supervising internal CCTV feeds.
Administrative Backup and Strict Legal Stance
The scale of the re-examination has prompted extensive coordination with state and district administrations. Security forces—including local police, paramilitary units, the Indian Air Force, and the Department of Posts—have been integrated into the logistics. An average of 40 to 50 security personnel are guarding each centre, while bank officials are securing confidential papers at 1,500 custodian bank branches.
To ensure the entire infrastructure functions seamlessly, the NTA successfully conducted a comprehensive nationwide mock drill on Saturday, June 20, testing all biometric, frisking, and jammer networks. Addressing administrative security, the NTA stated it is actively monitoring digital channels to prevent misinformation. The agency warned it will take strict action against fraudulent "paper leak" claims and rumor-mongering on social media, advising parents and students to rely exclusively on official NTA advisories.
Upgraded Candidate Facilities
In a bid to reduce candidate stress and manage the summer heat, the NTA has coordinated with state governments to provide student-friendly basic amenities at all test locations. Centres will be equipped with drinking water, Oral Rehydration Solutions (ORS), stationary medical ambulances, and shaded waiting areas for parents.
Internally, rooms will feature wall clocks to help students pace themselves. The NTA has also expanded the initial examination window to offset the time consumed by strict security queues, and provided dedicated rough-work layouts at the front of booklets to aid left-handed candidates.
