The Viral Video And The FIR

The controversy began after footage from a protest organised by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) at Jantar Mantar on July 23 went viral, showing a young woman hurling abuse at the Prime Minister and, according to Modi, at his late mother as well. A Zero FIR was registered against her at Noida's Expressway Police Station on July 29 under Sections 352, 353(1) and 356(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, before being transferred to Delhi's Parliament Street Police Station for investigation.

The girl, who says she is 15 and in Class 10, said in her own apology video that she was encouraged by people around her at the protest to speak on camera and repeated language she did not fully grasp the weight of. Her age has not been officially confirmed, with the original complainant and a CJP spokesperson stating she is 25.

PM Modi's Response

In a late-night Instagram video message, Modi said the abusive remarks made against him and his late mother were deeply disturbing, but that young people deserve an opportunity to learn from their mistakes rather than face punishment. He referred to those involved as "misguided children" and said he wished to forgive them.

The Appeal Going Forward

The mother has requested that the case against her daughter be withdrawn, and has appealed to parents and authorities to keep closer watch on how minors use social media, warning that a single lapse of judgment online can spiral quickly out of a young person's control.
