A 22-year-old man from Indore has alleged that his name has become a challenge for him. The man named "Rahul Gandhi" from Akhand Nagar, who shares a similar name to Indian National Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, says he is fed-up with the famous surname as people often think him as "fake" person.
Indore, July 30: A 22-year-old man from Madhya Pradesh's Indore has alleged that his name has become a challenge for him. The man named "Rahul Gandhi" from Akhand Nagar, who shares a similar name to Indian National Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, says he is fed-up with the famous surname as people often think him as "fake" person. Gandhi has alleged that because of the name he had difficulty in getting a sim card. The telecom operators have refused to give him a sim, thinking he is a fake person. "I have an Aadhaar card as the only document of my identity. When I furnish a copy of this document to purchase a mobile SIM card or for any other work, people consider me a fake person because of my name...they look at me with suspicion," he said.
Not only this, once when the Indore resident called a bank and told them his name is Rahul Gandhi, an official started laughing and asked when did the Congress leader shifted from Delhi to Indore and abruptly hang up the call.
Disclosing the story behind the name, Rahul said a top BSF official used to address his father late Rajesh Malviya, who was working a washerman in the paramilitary force, as 'Gandhi'. Gradually, his father developed an attachment with the name. He later enrolled, Rahul Malviya with Gandhi surname in the school. Now, the youth is considering to change his last name through the legal process.
