‘She Was Not Listening to Me’: Husband Travels From Madurai, Throws Acid-Like Liquid at Nurse Amid Family Dispute

A 26-year-old nurse from West Bengal was critically injured in Bengaluru on Thursday after her estranged husband allegedly attacked her with a machete and threw floor-cleaning acid at her near her workplace in JP Nagar. Police arrested the accused, identified as Venkatesh, who had travelled from Madurai in Tamil Nadu before the attack.

The incident took place at around 9.15 am when the nurse, identified as Madhumita, had stepped out of Narayana Clinic in JP Nagar to have breakfast, according to police. Investigators said Venkatesh allegedly followed her towards the clinic's parking area and attacked her with a machete. He also allegedly threw floor-cleaning acid at her during the assault. A traffic police sub-inspector who was on duty nearby intervened and helped take the injured woman to a hospital. She was undergoing treatment and was reported to be in critical condition. Husband Travelled From Madurai Before Attack

Police said Venkatesh, a native of Tamil Nadu and an employee of an oil company, had travelled from Madurai to Bengaluru on the morning of the incident. He was subsequently arrested by the police. Investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the attack and the events that preceded it.

Bengaluru Nurse and Husband Had Been Living Separately

According to police, Madhumita, originally from West Bengal, and Venkatesh married in 2023. The couple had been living separately for around a year following disputes between them.
