New Delhi, December 27: Transgender above the age of 60 years can avail 40 per cent senior citizen travel concession in base fare in all trains, said Sunil Udasi, Chief Public Relations Officer, Central Railways, reported news agency ANI. Sunil Udaswhilele speaking to ANI said, "Ministry of Railways has decided to grant 40 per cent concession in railway passenger fare to Transgender (T) Senior Citizen of age 60 years & above, with effect from 1 January 2019."

This development was made after, a PIL was filed last year citing a violation of Article 14, 15, 19 and 21 of the Indian Constitution by not including transgender as a gender option in the ticket booking forms. The PIL also demanded reservations in berths to transgender.

According to the previous rule, a male minimum of 60 years age and female citizen minimum of 58 years are granted concession in all the classes of trains. The element of concession is 50 per cent for the woman while 40 per cent for men. From 1st January 2019, the third category will also be added and they will be also eligible for concession.
