Uttarakhand Flash Flood Video: Strong Currents Sweep Away Bridge in Chamoli’s Niti Valley, Travel Advisory Issued

A metal bridge in Chamoli’s Niti Valley was swept away by strong river currents after heavy rain caused water levels to rise. A video showed muddy water striking the bridge and uprooting it within seconds. The area was cut off from the main town, while authorities advised people to avoid travel and urged residents near rivers to stay at a safe distance.

Strong currents triggered by a rising river level following heavy rain swept away a metal bridge in Uttarakhand’s Niti Valley region of Chamoli district. A video of the incident shows a large volume of muddy water rushing downstream and striking the bridge before the structure was uprooted and pushed towards the riverbank.

The incident left the area cut off from the main town and prompted authorities to advise people against travelling through the affected region. Residents living near rivers and streams have also been asked to maintain a safe distance as the possibility of further rises in water levels due to continued rain remains. IIT Roorkee Viral Video: Students Use Floating Platform To Tackle Waterlogged Campus.

Bridge Swept Away by Powerful River Currents

The video shows muddy floodwater moving rapidly through the valley before hitting the metal bridge. Within seconds, the force of the water uprooted the structure and carried it towards the riverbank.

A truck and an SUV travelling on a road alongside the river can also be seen turning away from the area just before the bridge was swept away. The loss of the bridge has disrupted connectivity in the area. Rajgarh: 9 Killed as Passenger Van With 11 People Swept Away by Flooded Drain Amid Heavy Rains (Video).

Following the incident, authorities asked people not to travel through the affected area until conditions improve. Residents and travellers have been advised to postpone their journeys until the administration gives an all-clear message.

People living along the banks of rivers and streams in the valley have also been asked to keep a safe distance because water levels could rise further if heavy rain continues.

Rain Continues Across Uttarakhand

Uttarakhand Disaster Management and Rehabilitation Secretary Vinod Kumar Suman said the state had been receiving continuous rainfall since Sunday night.

He said the affected areas include Dehradun, Bageshwar, Nainital and Champawat.

"It will rain in the entire state. And the rain will continue continuously. There will be a gap of some time in the evening. After this, like it rained last night, it will rain again like this in the night," Suman told news agency ANI.

The continuing rainfall has raised concerns over water levels in rivers and streams as well as the possibility of landslides in vulnerable areas.

Awareness Drives in Landslide-Prone Areas

Suman said authorities are conducting awareness programmes in landslide-prone areas and informing residents about precautions to take during such weather conditions.

Officials are urging people to remain alert, particularly in areas close to rivers, streams and slopes vulnerable to landslides.

With rainfall expected to continue, authorities have advised residents and visitors to follow local instructions and avoid unnecessary travel in areas where weather and road conditions remain unsafe.
