Heavy Rain Triggers Massive Land Subsidence
According to officials, heavy rain lashed Makrana and nearby areas at around 4 am on Thursday, leading to waterlogging in several low-lying localities. The continuous rainfall weakened the ground in the Kalanada mining area, causing nearly a dozen marble mines to collapse near Jakhli Road.

As the mines caved in, a large section of the road also gave way and disappeared into the deep pits, forcing authorities to close the route immediately.
Police Seal Off Area
Makrana police and local administration rushed to the spot after receiving information about the collapse. The road was sealed off and public movement in the surrounding area was restricted as a precaution.

Villages Cut Off
With the Jakhli Road damaged, residents of Jakhli, Matabhar and several nearby villages have been forced to use longer alternative routes. The disruption is expected to affect daily commuting, farming activities, students and emergency services.

Similar Incident Reported Earlier
Residents said this is not the first such incident in the Kalanada mining belt. A similar collapse occurred around two years ago, damaging the same road. Although temporary repairs were carried out at the time, a permanent solution was never implemented.
Experts have once again raised concerns over safety measures in abandoned mining areas, stressing the need for regular geological surveys, proper monitoring and safer infrastructure to prevent similar incidents in the future.
