Bhubaneswar is one of the key Lok Sabha constituencies of Odisha. The voting for the parliamentary polls 2019 on this seat will take place in the third phase on April 23. Before delimitation in 2008, legislative assembly segments which constituted this parliamentary constituency were: Bhubaneswar, Jatni, Khurda, Begunia, Nayagarh, Khandapara and Daspalla. Following the delimitation, it comprises of seven assembly seats -Jayadev, Bhubaneswar Central, Bhubaneswar North, Ekamra-Bhubaneswar, Jatni, Begunia and Khurda. The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has fielded Arup Mohan Patnaik, while the CPI (M) has given a ticket to Janardan Pati from Bhubaneswar. Whereas, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has fielded Aparajita Sarangi from here. However, the Congress is not contesting from this Lok Sabha constituency. The last date of filing nominations for the seat was April 4. The scrutiny of nominations papers took place on April 5. In 2014 elections, BJD candidate Prasanna Kumar Patasani, defeated BJP's  Prithiviraj Harichandan by a massive margin of close to two lakh votes. While, Congress' Bijay Mohanty came at the third spot. The constituency is a stronghold of the BJD. Patasani is also a sitting MP from Bhubaneswar and had won this seat continuously for five times on the BJD ticket.

On March 10, the Election Commission of India announced dates for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The elections will take place in seven phases, and the results will be declared on May 23. Along with Lok Sabha elections, Odisha is also going for assembly polls. The voting for the Odisha assembly will take place in four phases along with the Lok Sabha elections.
