Mumbai, March 23: Shiv Sena candidate Sanjay Mandlik was elected as Member of Parliament from Kolhapur constituency in Maharashtra. Kolhapur Lok Sabha seat polling was done in the third phase of general elections on April 23. The main electoral contest is between the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and the Shiv Sena. Dhananjay Mahadik of the NCP is the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) from Kolhapur parliamentary seat.

To defeat NCP MP Mahadik, the Shiv Sena has fielded Sanjay Mandlik. While the Shiv Sena candidate has support of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the NCP nominee has backing from the Congress. The process of filing nomination for Kolhapur Lok Sabha election began from March 28. The last day for nominations was April 4. In 2014 Lok Sabha polls, the alliance of the BJP, Shiv Sena and Swabhiman Paksha together bagged 42 seats in Maharashtra. The Congress won two seats, while the NCP four. Lok Sabha elections will take place in seven phases - on April 11, April 18, April 23, April 29, May 6, May 12 and May 19.
