The Opposition has brushed off the claims made by Fadnavis, saying that Maharashtra is set to witness a new government being formed by the Congress, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP and other like-minded parties. The Chief Minister is disconnected from the ground realities and has failed to sense his defeat, a top leader of the Sharad Pawar-led party told reporters on condition of anonymity.

NCP state unit chief Jayant Patil, while speaking to reporters on Tuesday, reiterated the sentiment. He claimed that all the pollsters will be jolted when the results of assembly elections will be out. "The exit polls have failed to gauge the reality. Let them predict whatever they want. The next government will not be formed by the BJP," he said.

Patil claimed that there was revolt against Fadnavis in rural Maharashtra for his anti-agrarian policies. The voters have avenged the apathy shown towards them by voting against this government, he alleged.

All the 288 vidhan sabha seats in Maharashtra were contested in a single-phase on October 21. The Election Commission registered a voter turnout of 63 percent. The counting of votes has been scheduled by the polling body for tomorrow morning. Ahead of the official results, the exit polls have predicted a clean sweep for the BJP-Sena alliance. An aggregate of all major surveys have predicted 200+ seats for the saffron camp.
