During 16th Lok Sabha Polls, Shobha Karandlaje from Bhartiya Janata Party(BJP) defeated K Jayaprakash Hegde from Indian National Congress (INC). The BJP candidate won this seat by a margin of 1,81,643 votes. The total turnout of voters was 10,34,108.

The 17th Lok Sabha election will be held throughout India from April 11, 2019, and it will last till May 19, 2019. The polling will be done in 7 phases. The result for each phase will be declared on May 23, 2019.
