While Fadnavis, 48, is a full-time politician representing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), his wife Amruta is a banker who has also made forays in singing and social activism. As per her official designation, she holds the post of Vice President – Corporate Head (west India) with Axis Bank.

Fadnavis had, in 2018, drawn flak after a video promoting preservation and rejuvenation of rivers in Mumbai featured Amruta as the lead singer. The Opposition had accused the state government of quid pro quo in the issue. However, the issue did not snowball into a major controversy.

In 2017, Fadnavis' wife had attained widespread support after she organised a "confidence walk for acid attack survivors". The programme, organised in coordination with the Maharashtra State Women Commission, had also featured the participation of top Bollywood actors Juhi Chawla, Sonali Bendre, Anu Malik, Sakshi Tanwar and Vivek Oberoi.
