Authorities in Iloilo City of Philippines have launched a formal investigation into a viral video circulating on social media that allegedly shows two students engaging in s*x acts in a public area of the Iloilo Esplanade. Police and city officials have issued stern warnings to the public against uploading, sharing or reposting the video, emphasising that circulating the media violates multiple federal laws, including child protection statutes.
The Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO), led by City Director Police Col. Wilbert B. Parilla, initiated the investigation after the video, showing a male and a female in school uniforms at Esplanade 8 in Barangay Progreso, Lapuz district, gained widespread traction online.
ICPO Police Station 8 and the Cybercrime Response Team are currently working to determine the authenticity of the recording, identify the individuals involved, and track down the person who initially recorded and uploaded the footage. Legal Warnings Against Online Sharing
City authorities and police warned netizens that sharing or forwarding the video carries severe legal consequences. Because the individuals involved are reportedly minors, distributing the footage constitutes a violation of the Anti-Online S*xual Abuse or Exploitation of Children (OSAEC) Act.
Additionally, individuals who share the video could face prosecution under the Anti-Photo and Video Voyeurism Act of 2009 and the Data Privacy Act of 2012.
"The ICPO appeals to the public to refrain from sharing, reposting, or circulating the video, as such actions may further compromise the privacy, dignity, and welfare of the individuals involved, especially if minors are concerned," the ICPO said in an official statement. In response to the incident, Col. Parilla urged parents and guardians to maintain stronger oversight over youth activities and reinforce guidance regarding conduct in public and on social media.
"Choices have consequences," Parilla stated. "We remind everyone, especially the youth, that every action, whether done in private or in public, may affect their future. We call on parents, guardians, and the entire community to work together in guiding our young people toward making responsible decisions."
Meanwhile, media organisations, including the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP) and the Iloilo Media-Citizen Council (IMCC), urged news outlets and social media users to handle reporting on the subject with strict sensitivity to protect the rights and dignity of the individuals involved.
