Director Halitha Shameem made the film Aelay, of which the poster has been plagiarised according to her. Taking to social media she claimed that not only the poster, but also other aspects of the Malayalam film Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam were copied from her film Aelay. In her post she said "Stealing all the aesthetics from a film isn't acceptable. I'll not be quite if the ideas and aesthetics from it is mercilessly ripped off."
