'Even Dawood Ibrahim Will Campaign’: Delhi High Court Refuses to Entertain PIL for Virtual Campaigning by Arrested Politicians in Lok Sabha Elections
A public interest litigation petition (PIL) asking the Election Commission of India (ECI) to create a system that would allow jailed or arrested candidates and political figures to participate in video conferences as poll campaigners for Lok Sabha elections was dismissed by the Delhi High Court on Wednesday, May 1. Acting Chief Justice (ACJ) Manmohan and Justice Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora, sitting on the division bench, instructed the petitioner, a law student, to learn about the separation of powers instead of imposing a penalty on him. Do you want to let everyone who has been arrested use VC to run for office? I’m telling you that all of the feared criminals will create political parties if this is carried out. Even Dawood Ibrahim would use VC to run for office and contest, ACJ Manmohan said in his remark.
