The University of Bern sacked a lecturer on Tuesday, October 17, for making "unacceptable" remarks on X (previously Twitter), professing to cheer the fatal Hamas attack on Israel. The anonymous scholar called the October 7 attack, which killed over 1,400 people and was the bloodiest in Israel's 75-year history, "the best pre-birthday present I've ever had." In another tweet, which has since been deleted, he wrote "Shabbat Shalom" in reaction to a video of the Hamas raid, which triggered a violent Israeli response that killed over 3,000 people in Gaza. Gaza Hospital Blast: After Explosion Kills Hundreds at Al-Ahil Hospital, Hamas and Israel Trade Blame As Rage Spreads in Region (Watch Videos).
