Indian captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and elected to field first against England in the fifth and final Twenty20 International at the Utilita Bowl on Saturday evening. Looking to salvage pride and avoid a 0-4 series whitewash on their white-ball tour of the United Kingdom, the visitors have significantly altered their starting line-up, handing opportunities to wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson and young all-rounder Suryansh Shedge. The tactical decision to bowl first comes after the visiting team management opt to shake up the middle order following a string of batting collapses earlier in the leg. Samson, who did not feature in the previous encounter, returns to provide stability and experienced cover behind the stumps, while Shedge gets the nod to offer a dynamic dual-skill balance.

Samson replaces Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who flopped in all three appearences, while Shedge comes in for Washington Sundar, who has failed with both bat and ball on this UK tour in limited appearences. Following three consecutive comprehensive defeats and a rain-ruined series opener, India find themselves playing purely for ranking preservation. Bizarre! England captain Harry Brook named a single changed and high-flying squad for the Southampton finale, keen to complete an unblemished series victory. All-rounder Liam Dawson replaced Rehan Ahmed, who made his T20I debut in the last match.

A defeat on Saturday would see the visitors yield their long-held position as the number-one ranked T20I nation in the International Cricket Council (ICC) standings.
