ENG 72/3 in 16 Overs (Target: 608) at Stumps | India vs England Highlights of 2nd Test 2025 Day 4: India Continue Dominance As England Face Uphill Task Ahead of Final Day

A dominant day for India. They have ticked every box they wanted to while entering the day. Another great batting performance from Shubman Gill as he ended up scoring 161. Got good support from Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja and set up a massive target of 608 in front of England. England have looked down and out the entire Test match and a tired top three of England perished in front of Akash Deep and Mohammed Siraj. India have their foot on the throat of England and they will want to finish the task on Day 5. 

Out! Akash Deep strikes and it is the big fish this time. Joe Root is the one to depart. Akash Deep bowls full, makes the ball deviate off the seam and Root goes off balance with the ball sneaking in, rattling his stumps. India are on an absolute roll here and they are looking comfortably on top of England at this point. Root b Akash Deep 6(16).

Out! England look in all sorts of trouble. The pitch which was looking like a flat one has threatened the England batters. After Mohammed Siraj dismissed Zak Crawley, Akash Deep castles Ben Duckett. Comes around the wicket and makes one jag back in to take off his stumps. Akash Deep has been a trouble for Duckett, the centurion of the last match and it is proved once again. Duckett b Akash Deep 25(15).

Out! Early wicket for India and England are in all sorts of trouble. Mohammed Siraj pitches it up on the off-side, Zak Crawley doesn't move his feet and goes for the drive. The ball gets in the air and the point fielder takes a very good low catch. India strike early and are ahead now.  Crawley c (sub)Sai Sudharsan b Siraj 0(7).

Finally the declaration comes from Shubman Gill. A little late than anticipated but there is still 18 overs of play remaining in the day. India have posted a target of 608 runs in front of England. 238 more than what England chased at Leeds. India have wanted to ensure both by runs and time that they chalk out defeat from the picture. England were not at their best with the bat in the first innings and will want to do better chasing this total. 

Out! Finally England sees some wickets. They looked completely deflated when Ollie Pope misjudged Shubman Gill's catch. But Shoaib Bashir finally gets a leading edge from Gill and takes an easy catch to see the back of Gill after a long time. Meanwhile, in the next over Nitish Kumar Reddy goes for the big shot and gets caught at deep. India doesn't look like they are declaring yet. Nitish Reddy c Crawley b Root 1(2) and Gill c and b Bashir 161(162).

Shubman Gill has been batting with impeccable authority throughout the Test match. He is yet to commit a mistake. After a double century in the first innings, he now brings up a 150 in the second innings extending India's lead further and setting up England a mammoth target in the final innings. Gill has smashed many records on his way. 

Both the set batters out on the crease Shubman Gill and Ravindra Jadeja are now playing their shots and scoring freely. They are eyeing a target and a time for the declaration and England is bowling like that too waiting for the call of Shubman Gill. Gill has upped the ante alongside Jadeja and trying to score as much before they put in England to bat. 

Tea break! Some quality batting from Shubman Gill and he registered his second century of the Test match. His century along with the steady batting from Ravindra Jadeja kept India in track to set a huge target in front of England. It will be a matter to see when Gill considers declaration. Will it be in the final session or on Day 5. Only one wicket in the entire session. 

Century! Another hundred for Shubman Gill and he has been absolutely sensational. After the big double century in the first match he has scored a century in the second innings while setting a target for England. Never looked out of control and kept playing his shots at the same time accumulating and cruised to his century. It has been a memorable series for him till now. 

India continue to pile up the lead on England. The pitch has shown no signs of deterioration till now and both Indian batters out on the crease have not faced any trouble to bat. They continue to accumulate and extend the lead on their way to set up a big target. Currenly India are playing for the declare and it will be a matter to see when they consider giving England the chance to bat. 

Out! Rishabh Pant departs against the run of play and 40 runs late of when he should have. Tries to go for the big shot again but once again, the bat slips from his hand and doesn't get the required connection. The long-off settles under the ball and takes an easy catch. England survive a bit longer. Pant c Duckett b Bashir 65(58).

Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant have come out to bat and made it clear what they want to do in this session. They will look out for a little more than 150 runs and then declare. Like Shubman Gill and Pant has taken on the England bowling playing their shots. Pant played a few brilliant shots and brought up his half-century. 

Shubman Gill has picked off where he left in the last innings. Got saved once in the first innings with an inside edge into the pads. But after that he has consolidated on his wicket and after the lunch break has went all guns blazing on the short ball ploy of England. Hit some stunning boundaries and in the way picked up another half-century. 

Lunch! Despite the two wickets in this season, India have stayed more or less on track piling their lead upto 357 runs now. They will want 150 more runs at least before they even consider starting to declare. In the last game, three sessions were not enough to bowl out England. So India might look to give them a session more. The second session will be crucial about how India approach the game. Rishabh Pant meanwhile has made his intentions clear although England will regret the chances they have dropped. 

The game has suddenly opened up. Rishabh Pant has come to the crease and as usual he has charged at the England bowlers hitting some tremendous shots. Pant's presence has upped India's scoring rate. At the same time, he was dropped twice. First in the mid-off by Zak Crawley and then in the mid-wicket by Chris Woakes, the second being a difficult chance. 

Out! England stay afloat in the game. Brilliant ball from Josh Tongue and KL Rahul has his stumps uprooted. Pitched right up and angled into the stumps, Rahul's front foot doesn't get forward enough as he looks to drive and the ball seams away to take his stumps. Important wicket for England. Rahul b Tongue 55(84).

Out! Karun Nair departs. He was trying to score quick to give the team as much runs in time as possible but it ended up backfiring as he went into an expansive drive and got an outside edge.  Jamie Smith took a fine catch to his right behind the stumps. England won't be much relieved as Karun has delivered some chances throughout the morning and it will be Shubman Gill walking in. Karun Nair c Jamie Smith b Brydon Carse 26(46).

England bowlers have started the day with the ball positively, troubling the Indian batters and have found the edges thrice but unfortunately, none has  been converted to a wicket yet. It is getting frustrating for England as India will look to set a big target in front of them.
