IND Win By 43 Runs | India vs Sri Lanka Highlights of 1st T20I 2024: Suryakumar Yadav, Riyan Parag Shine as Men in Blue Attain 1-0 Series Lead

Riyan Parag picks up his third wicket as India beat Sri Lanka by 43 runs! What a match it has been and India have silenced the crowd at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium with an exceptional comeback after the hosts looked to be in control of the run chase at one point. Apart from two major partnerships (84 and 56), there was nothing of substance from the Sri Lankan batting as they were eventually bowled out for 170 runs in 19.2 overs. With this, the Gautam Gambhir era in Indian cricket gets off to a winning start. For Sri Lanka, Pathum Nissanka top-scored with 79 runs while Kusal Mendis added 45. A dominant performance from the Men in Blue who obtain a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

OUT! India have a breakthrough finally with Arshdeep Singh dismissing Kusal Mendis. A big wicket this as Sri Lanka were in control of the run chase. Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis have given Sri Lanka a solid start, something they needed as they look to chase this down. Both batters have hit the boundaries and also rotated strike. India on the other hand, continue to look for their first wicket and a breakthrough is much-needed for the Men in Blue here. 

Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis have started off this run chase on a good note, scoring nine runs off the first over. But Mohammed Siraj did well to pull things back, giving away just four runs off the second over. 

Axar Patel ends the innings with a six as India finish a massive 213/7 in 20 overs. This is a big score on the board and Sri Lanka would need a start similar to that of India to chase this down. Captain Suryakumar Yadav sizzled with a half-century while Rishabh Pant scored 49. Openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill also scored 40 and 34 runs respectively. For Sri Lanka, Matheesha Pathirana starred with four wickets and was his side's best bowler.

Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya now have to take India to a massive score here after the start by the openers and Suryakumar Yadav's fifty. Pant has not looked very comfortable so far but showed what he can do, with a cracking six and a four on the leg side. 

OUT! A big wicket for Sri Lanka as Matheesha Pathirana traps Suryakumar Yadav in front. The Indian skipper, who scored a sparkling fifty, attempted a whip on the leg-side but missed the ball and was hit on his pads. FIFTY for Suryakumar Yadav! The Indian captain has played a fabulous knock and led from the front. He has kept India in the hunt for a score in the region of around 220 which would be a massive on this track, given India'sbowling attack. 

So we are halfway through the first innings and India are already sitting high, with  in 10 overs. A big credit for this has to be given to the opening combination of Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal, who scored 74 runs inside the first six overs. Rishabh Pant and Suryakumar Yadav are out in the middle and they are leading the charge for Team India here. Sri Lanka on the other hand, would aim at a few more wickets to put more pressure on the Indian batting.

OUT! Sri Lanka finally have a breakthrough with Dilshan Madushanka dismissing Shubman Gill. The right-hander opted for a big shot like the earlier one he hit for a four but did not make the desired connection this time around with Asitha Fernando taking a good catch.
