Rishabh Pant did not return to keep wickets after being hit on the head during India’s innings in the 1st IND vs AUS ODI match at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. KL Rahul replaced Pant as the wicket-keeper with Pant reported being under observation after being hit on the head during India’s innings earlier in the day. Pant’s absence during the Indian innings soon got the Twitterati talking whether this was also a ploy to punish the youngster for repeated failures with the bat. Pant was hit on the head by a Pat Cummins bouncer in the 44th over of the Indian innings which incidentally was also the same delivery Pant was dismissed. But a vicious bouncer from Cummins unsettled Pant and although the batsman recovered well to play a shot the rising delivery hit the upper side of his willow before rattling his helmet. The blow, however, seemed to have left the left-handed batsmen suffering from concussion and as a result, he was replaced. “Rishabh Pant has got a concussion after being hit on his helmet while batting. KL Rahul is keeping wickets in his absence. Pant is under observation at the moment,” said a tweet from news agency ANI. Earlier, India were bowled out for 255 runs after being asked to bat first. Shikhar Dhawan was the top-scorer for the hosts with a fighting 77 even as the others around him failed to build their inning around him. Mitchell Starc finished with a three-wicket haul while Cummins and Kane Richardson returned with two wickets each.
