There were 27 games played in the competition with India winning the final against the mighty West Indies side.
1987
David Boon was awarded the ‘Player of the Match’ award for his half-century. It was Australia’s first World Cup win and also the beginning of the downfall of the mighty West Indies cricket team.

1992 World Cup was the first edition to feature coloured clothing and white ball.
1996
The 1996 Cricket World Cup was also known as Wills World Cup. It was the second occasion after 1987 when the world was played in the Indian Sub-continent. India, Pakistan and Sri-Lanka hosted the sixth edition of the world cup. It was played between February 14 and March 17.
1999
Shane Warne’s dramatic spell with the bowl bowled out Pakistan for a paltry 132 in the finals which was never going to challenge the Aussies.
2003
Ricky Ponting won the ‘Player of the Match’ award for his cracking century in the first innings. It was Australia’s second consecutive World Cup victory, after previously lifting the coveted trophy in 1999 WC.
2007
Australia won the controversy-marred ICC World Cup 2007 match by 53 runs (D/L) method. Adam Gilchrist of Australia was adjudged with the ‘Player of the Match’ award. It was Australia’s third-straight World Cup victory (and fourth overall) in the tournament’s history.
2011
While MS Dhoni won the man of the match award, the player of the series went to Yuvraj Singh for his excellent all-round show throughout the campaign.
2015
Australia, and New Zealand jointly hosted the 2015 Cricket World Cup.
