Virat Kohli once again showed his class with the bat as he went past 2000 runs in a calendar year during the first One-Day International (ODI) between India and Windies at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. Kohli at the start of the match needed 42 runs to complete 2000 runs in ODIs this year. This was for the third consecutive time that Kohli scored 2000 or more runs in a calendar year. Former Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, Mathew Hayden, and Joe Root are the other players to have achieved the feat. This was also the second time Kohli scored 2000 runs in a calendar year in ODIs as a captain.

Meanwhile, India were going strong with Kohli and Rohit Sharma hammering the Windies bowling. The duo, at the time of writing this report, had shared over 100 runs stand for the second wicket. Earlier, a brilliant century by Shimron Hetmyer and some useful contributions from Devendra Bishoo and Kemar Roach towards the end helped West Indies post 322/8. Hetmyer played 78 balls and slammed six boundaries and as many sixes before he was dismissed by Ravindra Jadeja in the 39th over.

Chandrapaul Hemraj, Marlon Samuels were the only disappointments for West Indies as all other batters contributed and helped their team to get past the 300 run mark in their allotted 50 overs.
