Why Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is Not Playing IND vs AFG 1st T20I 2026 Match?
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is omitted from India's playing XI for the 1st T20I against Afghanistan today, September 13, 2026, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi. This strategic decision prioritizes experienced opening combinations ahead of the Asian Games in Japan.
Young batting prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi will not feature in the playing XI for the first Twenty20 International (T20I) between India and Afghanistan today at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. The decision comes amidst a critical selection phase for the Indian team, which is utilizing this three-match series, officially known as the Friendship Cup, as a preparatory ground for the upcoming Asian Games in Japan. The team management faces a keen contest for top-order spots, particularly the opening position, with Sooryavanshi competing with established players like Sanju Samson. The Selection Conundrum
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, born on March 27, 2011, and currently 15 years old, made his T20I debut for India against England in July 2026, becoming India's youngest male international debutant. Despite his impressive domestic and IPL record, which includes being the youngest IPL debutant and centurion, his place in the national squad's playing XI is not guaranteed.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was named Player of the Tournament in India’s recent T20I series against Zimbabwe after scoring 151 runs in three innings at an average of 50.33 and a strike rate of 196.10. He also smashed a record 50 off just 18/19 balls, becoming the youngest player to score a men’s T20I half-century.
