All qualified teams in the 2019-20 UEFA Champions League draw were split into two pots with the 8 group stage winners pitted on one pot, while the runners-up in the group stages of 2019-20 UCL were put on the second pot. Paris Saint-Germain (Group A), Bayern Munich (Group B), Manchester City (Group C), Juventus (Group D), Liverpool (Group E), Barcelona (Group F), RB Leipzig (Group G) and Valencia (Group H) were the winners in the group stages of the UEFA Champions League 2019-20 and were placed in Pot 1 in the UCL 2019-20 round of 16 draw. Interestingly, this is the first time in the tournament’s history that all 16 teams, which progressed into the knockout stages of the 2019-20 UEFA Champions League, are from the top 5 leagues of Europe, namely the English Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga and Ligue 1. Premier League and La Liga have the highest representation in the knockout stages of 2019-20 UEFA Champions League with four teams each from the England and Spain taking part in the last 16. They are followed by Serie A and Bundesliga, who have three teams each from Italy and Germany in the knockout stages while France have the least representation with two teams in the round of 16 in 2019-20 UCL.

The rules of Champions League state that teams from the country cannot be drawn against each other in the competition’s round of 16 and quarter-final stages. Teams from the same UCL group cannot also be drawn against each other in the first two knockout rounds of the Champions League. First legs of 2019-20 Champions League round of 16 matches will be played in the month of February 2020.
