Jinson Johnson, who made India proud by clinching a gold and silver medal at the Asian Games 2018, has been awarded the prestigious Arjuna Award. It was on the Day 12 of the mega tournament that Johnson clinched a gold medal in the 1500m race by clocking 3:44.72 time to emerge victoriously. Amir Moradi of Iran and Mohammed Tiouali of Bahrain came second and third respectively. He won a silver medal in the 800-meter category at the Asian Games in Jakarta. Jinson Johnson wins a gold for India. 

Meanwhile, as per the latest update, Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli and weightlifter Mirabai Chanu have been recommended for Khel Ratna Award. It was in 2016, that the Indian cricket captain was recommended for the award but did not get a nod from the selection committee. Kohli is also placed on number one of the ICC Test Cricket Rankings. Chanu, on the other hand, was recommended for her heroics in World Championship last year in 2017 where she won a gold medal in the 48kg category. She also made India proud at the Commonwealth Games 2018 whereby winning a gold medal. However, owing to an injury, she remained absent from the recently concluded Asian Games 2018.

Chanu’s coach Vijay Sharma and Rishabh Pant’s coach Tarak Singh have also been recommended for the prestigious Dronacharya and Dhyan Chand Awards. The selection committee is headed by Justice Mudgal air pistol shooter Samresh Jung, shuttler Ashwini Ponnappa, former national boxing coach G S Sandhu, hockey coach AK Bansal and archery coach Sanjeeva Singh apart from Sports Authority of India's Special Director General Onkar Kedia and Joint Secretary (Sports) Inder Dhamija.
