Norwegian-American robotics company 1X has unveiled Neo, a new humanoid robot equipped with advanced AI-powered hands designed to perform delicate household tasks with high precision. These tendon-driven hands are engineered to mimic human dexterity, enabling the robot to handle objects ranging from fragile grapes to heavy equipment.

As per a report by India Today, the hands feature 25 degrees of freedom, which is nearly equivalent to the range of motion of a human hand. The design includes 22 fully actuated joints across the fingers and palm, supplemented by three degrees of freedom in the wrist to support complex movements. Viral Video Shows Fish on Flooded Mumbai Local Train Railway Tracks Amid Monsoon Waterlogging.

Advanced Sensor Technology and Dexterity

Neo’s hands utilise integrated cameras, AI, and tactile sensors to perceive objects, detect slippage, and adjust grip force in real time. Unlike traditional robotics that often use separate components, Neo’s joints function as both motors and sensors, allowing for precise force feedback. The robot is capable of 0.2mm positioning accuracy and can lift a 20-pound kettlebell.

For domestic utility, the hands carry an IP68 rating and are constructed from food-safe materials, enabling the robot to wash itself after handling food. 1X has confirmed that the hardware has undergone extensive testing, with wrist joints surviving over two million load cycles. The company reports it has already produced hundreds of these units and possesses the capacity to manufacture 10,000 this year. Mark Zuckerberg Back on X: Elon Musk Praises X as Great Platform After Meta Boss's Return.

Operational Capabilities and Human Oversight

While the demonstrations showcase impressive autonomous capabilities, 1X clarified that some tasks were performed via remote control during the testing phase. For complex operations, the company offers an "Expert Mode," allowing human operators to assist the robot remotely via its onboard cameras. To address privacy, 1X noted that faces and sensitive information can be blurred during these remote sessions.
