Android 17, codenamed Cinnamon Bun, officially rolled out to Google Pixel devices on June 16, 2026, promising a new era of mobile intelligence. Now, following its global launch on October 13, 2026, Oppo and OnePlus are gearing up to deliver their Android 17-based ColorOS 17 to a massive roster of smartphones and tablets. This update marks a significant shift for OnePlus, which is transitioning all its supported devices from OxygenOS to ColorOS 17.
ColorOS 17: A Deep Dive into AI and Performance
ColorOS 17 introduces a host of innovations, prominently featuring a "Liquid Glass" design philosophy, which Oppo refers to as "Flow." This visual overhaul is complemented by a new Luminous Render Engine, engineered to enhance system performance. Oppo claims significant improvements, including a 30% reduction in rendering load, up to 25% less RAM usage in certain scenarios, 55% more stable app launches, and a 50% faster loading of Gallery thumbnails on first launch compared to ColorOS 16.
The update heavily integrates artificial intelligence, with Oppo touting features like "AI Mind Pilot's Agent Mode," which can intelligently organise and rename photos and files based on their content and date, and even plan travel itineraries. Other AI-driven tools include "AI Photo Agent" for natural language-based photo editing and "AI Mind Space" to transform documents and video links into searchable collections. Additionally, "AI Call Guard" offers protection against potential fraud involving synthetic voices and AI face swaps.
