Intel Layoffs Continue: Chip Giant Led by New CEO Lip-Bu Tan Preparing To Cut Over 500 Jobs as Part of Ongoing Restructuring Efforts, Say Reports

US-based chip giant Intel is reportedly preparing to lay off more employees as a part of its restructuring efforts under the leadership of new CEO Lip-Bu Tan. Intel layoffs will affect over 500 positions and by the end of 2025, the company would cut nearly 20% jobs, as per reports.

Santa Clara, July 10: Intel layoffs in 2025 will continue as the company is reportedly planning to cut 500 more jobs. The tech giant is expected to cut jobs in mid-July and in coming months, it could reduce up to 20% of its workforce amid various struggles. Ahead of the job cuts, Intel's top strategy officer Safroadu Yeboah-Amankwah departed and Sachin Katti took his position since the appointment of Lip-Bu Tan as New CEO.

Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan was appointed on March 18, 2025 and he has reportedly updated his leadership team and has started bringing new engineering talent onboard. Despite the changes, the tech giant continues its strategy to reduce workforce to save costs amid increased competition and a strategic shift towards automation and artificial intelligence (AI). Amid rise of the intense competition, Intel has also suffered billions of dollars of financial losses. Microsoft Saves USD 500 Million Implementing AI in Call Centres Amid Cutting 6,000 Jobs This Year.

Intel to Cut 500 More Jobs Including Software Engineers

Intel is reportedly preparing to lay off more 500 employees amid its ongoing workforce reduction efforts. These roles would be eliminated from Oregon. Globally, the layoffs will impact 20% of the total workforce employed by Intel. Recently, Intel laid off 107 employees from company's main headquarters at Santa Clara.

Reports suggested that the company would cut 529 jobs at Hillsboro and Aloha locations. Since his appointment, Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan has focused on streamlining company's operations and making the company agile. The upcoming Intel layoffs round will impact many critical positions including software engineers, chip architects and physical chip design specialists. The reports have indicated that the IT division's Vice President and similar other high-ranking executives may also be told to leave. Intel had posted USD 19 billion in loss in 2024 as the rivals including NVIDIA, AMD and TMSC offered more affordable chip tech in the market.
