Authorities confirmed that a major incident had been declared. Dozens Injured, Major Emergency Response Launched
Police said a number of people were injured in the collision and confirmed one fatality. The East of England Ambulance Service later reported that 11 people sustained very serious injuries, 22 suffered serious injuries and 56 were treated for minor injuries.

Emergency responders remained at the scene late into the evening alongside police, firefighters and ambulance personnel. Authorities have not yet disclosed the cause of the crash.
Passenger Describes Chaos After Impact

"People were crying, screaming. People were so scared and confused," Knapp said. He added that several passengers appeared to have broken bones and other visible injuries. According to Knapp, he managed to escape through a narrow gap in the train doors.
Images shared on social media showed passengers gathered near the tracks as emergency vehicles lined a nearby road.
Rail Services Disrupted As Investigation Begins
The National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT) confirmed that the person killed was a train driver and said it was closely monitoring developments.
East Midlands Railway stated that the collision involved its 4:40 p.m. service from Corby to London St. Pancras and the 3:50 p.m. service from Nottingham to the same destination. The operator canceled all services to and from St. Pancras for the remainder of Friday and said it was unable to confirm Saturday's schedule while investigations continued.
