Wine and spirits exports from the EU to the US had been swept into a 15 percent tariff introduced under the EU-US trade deal finalised last year. That rate was later lowered to 10 percent in July, when Washington rolled out fresh tariffs on 60 trading partners, including the EU, as part of an effort to reconstruct Trump's near-global tariff structure after the US Supreme Court struck down his earlier duties. Industry Reaction
The Irish Whiskey Association welcomed Trump's announcement and said it would keep working with EU and US counterparts to push for a return to a zero-for-zero tariff arrangement covering all drinks exports. IWA Director Eoin O Caitin said the sector best represents the trade relationship between the two countries and said the group is looking forward to the announcement being carried through.
