The two letters reveal Harp’s intense concern about Trump’s opinion of her and her desire to earn his approval. She tells Trump she is envious of women “whose only job seems to be to talk with you and look pretty.”

“We could be out on the Course, with no machines, and even forget what time it was! I didn’t have to be ‘Human Printer.’ I could take time to enjoy good conversation, and still get all my work done at the end of the day.” She also described feeling overwhelmed by her workload and said she had been forgetting to eat and sleep.

Letters Written During Scotland, Ireland Trip

The letters were written during or shortly after Trump's May 2023 golfing trip to Aberdeen and Turnberry in Scotland and Doonbeg in Ireland. One letter appears to be an apology over incidents during the trip. “I’m sorry,” she writes. “I thought I was the only one left behind last night, and had no idea Margot’s car was also pulled over, and sent back to the Airport,” apparently referring to White House communications adviser Margot Martin.

“Since I was alone in the van outside Customs, without my passport, I panicked, and should have just called Secret Service instead of you,” she wrote. She also apologised for walking on the golf course instead of using a cart. “If there is anything else I have done to cause you trouble, please forgive me,” she continued.

‘I Want That Job!!’

Harp wrote that she had not realised how quickly she was approaching burnout. “I had no idea how rapidly I was approaching burnout, and starting to envy those whose only ‘job’ seems to be to talk with you and look pretty. I want that job!!” She also described herself as struggling to keep up with the volume of material coming to the president.

“So many times, I’m just trying to stay afloat with all that’s coming in for you, I look like a hunchback who didn’t have time to freshen up. (at least you know what I should look like)!” Harp said she missed her “Talkshow days” when Trump would call her.

Questions Over Harp’s Influence

The letters are being published amid broader questions about Harp’s proximity to Trump and her role within his administration. The Daily Beast reported that the letters were given to author Michael Wolff while he was working on All or Nothing, his book about Trump's 2024 campaign. The book included extracts, while The New York Times later published shorter extracts from the same letters.

Wolff said he received the notes from people in the Trump campaign who were concerned about Harp’s growing closeness to the president. “The relationship here is not a relationship that should exist in a professional setting,” said Wolff. He said the letters were “discovered by members of the staff” among printouts Harp delivered to Trump. According to Wolff, the notes were photographed and circulated among campaign staff.

White House Defends Natalie Harp

White House spokesman Davis Ingle defended Harp when asked about the reports. “Natalie Harp is one of the most loyal and hardest-working aides on President Trump’s team. Harp, who grew up in California, first attracted Trump's attention after appearing on Fox News in 2019 and crediting legislation signed during his presidency with helping her recover from bone cancer.

She appeared at the 2020 Republican National Convention and was involved in Trump's campaign that year. She later worked for One America News Network before joining Trump's team as an assistant in 2022. Her current position has placed her close to the president and made her a prominent figure in his immediate circle.

In one passage, she recalls a promise Trump made after her father’s death. “Thank you for always being there for me—I’ll never forget when you made that promise to me after losing my Dad, and I know how happy he is right now that I did get to go to Scotland and Ireland, as he always wanted for me,” she writes.

She later adds: “To modify a classic, ‘I could not have parted with you, to anyone less worthy’—And, I will add, it is I who is unworthy.” Harp signs one letter, “With all my heart, Natalie.” The other ends: “Always, Natalie.” It is signed in Sharpie.
