On March 20, the India Meteorological Department informed that Cyclone Asani is likely to intensify into a deep depression during the next 12 hours. National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams have been deployed. Weather warnings have been issued. On March 20, some areas of the Andaman and Nicobar islands witnessed rain and strong winds. The cyclone is expected to move towards the Bangladesh-Myanmar coast on March 22. Earlier, the Ministry of Home Affairs, in an official statement had informed that one NDRF team has been deployed in Port Blair. Additional teams are all ready and will be airlifted if required.
