A news report on July 13 claimed that the Indian government had scrapped plans for a Japanese Shinkansen bullet train between Ahmedabad and Mumbai, opting instead for a Vande Bharat train. The Ministry of Railways promptly dismissed these claims as misleading, affirming that the Shinkansen bullet train project remains on track. The ministry also announced that Japan will introduce its next-generation E10 Shinkansen trains on this corridor. Construction activities, including track laying and station development, are progressing rapidly, with the first section of a 21-km undersea tunnel in Maharashtra recently completed, it added. Future bullet train corridors are also being considered by the government.
