The Indian Army on June 16 confirmed the disengagement of Indian & Chinese troops at Galwan Valley following the clash on intervening night of June 15-16. Armed forces confirmed the death of 20 Indian soldiers in violent face-off which had erupted in the region. “Indian and Chinese troops have disengaged at Galwan area where they had earlier clashed on the night of 15-16 June,” the Indian Army said in a statement. The Indian Army, while confirming the disengagement, underlined that all measures would be enacted to ensure the territorial security of India. As reported by ANI, the People's Liberation Army of China have sustained 43 casualties, including dead and severely injured. MEA accused the Chinese side of attempting to "change the status quo" in the region, which led to the violence. The MEA, in aftermath of the violence at LAC, has continued the pitch for dialogue resolve all pending Sino-Indian disputes. Colonel Santosh Babu, Commanding Officer of 16 Bihar Regiment, was among the Indian Army personnel killed in line of action against China. Col Babu was a resident of Suryapet district in Telangana and was the only child of his parents. The deceased Army officer is survived by his wife, two children and mother. "I am proud of his martyrdom, but also pained as he was my only son,” said Colonel Santosh Babu’s mother. Tensions between India and China have been brewing since early May, after the Chinese side exceeded their area of patrol in some parts of the Ladakh sector along the LAC. On June 6, a high-level military commanders' meeting was also held between the sides.
